6.5 Million Former Swedish American Athletic Club Hits Market

Well, according to Pantone, emerald *is* the color of the year...so if you're in the market for a $6.5 millie Park Slope mansion, you're totally in luck, and totally on trend. Cause this joint at 267 Sixth Ave, is dripping in green.

According to Curbed, this place served as the Swedish American Athletic Club from 1912 to 1970 (which just makes me think lewd and dirty thoughts. Just me? Thought so). It's got a 90ft ballroom, a billiard room, 63 windows, and it's 135 years old. It's definitely a bit dated, but daym: someone could turn this into something pretty darn fly. In fact, how cool would it be if we spun this into a cool, functional, way better version of the Montauk Club!? Someone would need to get a pool on the roof, and some central goddamned air (if it's not already there), but how hard could that be?

Givin out the ideas for free today, ppl.

WHO GIVES A SHIT: HAVE YOU EVER SUBLET YOUR APARTMENT?

So have you ppl ever sublet your apt? Like, for a year or two, I mean?--Not the whole Airbnb scenario.

And if so, did you use a broker or did you do it yourself. And if you did it yourself, why?? (i.e. were you able to get a bit more cash cause there was no broker fee?).

What did you do for a lease (like, are we supposed to find this shit online?)

And finally, was your apt destroyed?

Thank you Park Slope for solving all of our real estate conundrums. Ready, set, go (in the comments).

Show Me Yours: 1-Bedroom on Hoyt

SHOW ME YOURS is a recurring column in which we do two things: show you Park Slope real estate (and a few from nearby neighborhoods!), and tell you how much it is. That's pretty much it!

Here's our latest victim Show Me Yours-erwho lives just down the avenues from proper Park Slope in nearby Carroll Gardens:

  • Location:  Hoyt Street between 1st and 2nd
  • Type: 1 Bedroom with bonus room affectionately known as "the 6X9""
  • Rent or Own: Rent
  • Cost: $1600 (best deal in town)
  • What year did you move into this place? late 2010
  • Square Footage: 550
  • How Did You Find This Place: My wife and I were sitting in the car at the Fairway Parking lot trying to calm ourselves after another apartment fell through.  We'd been searching for six months.  Maybe it was shot nerves or over-caffeination, but I spilled my coffee all over myself and the front seat.  My wife used the Village Voice to mop up the errant Starbucks and spied a tiny ad (1"X1") for our apartment!
  • Amenities: heat, shelter, water
  • Who Calls this Place Home: A music teacher/writer and a photographer.
  • What’s really good about this joint:  Brownstones have an old New York charm which is not lost on our little building (circa 1865).  The location is great.  We're walking distance to tons of restaurants, bars, and of course Park Slope.
  • What’s really bad about this joint:  Well, I really hate to complain.....but the fridge is in the living room and the bathroom is an offensive shade of tan-ish/pink.

A FIPS ROUND-UP OF HAWT PARK SLOPE REAL ESTATE CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET

Let’s all take a minute to remember our dear friend Jimmy McMillan who once proclaimed that thou rent is “too damn high."

    Preach on, Jimmy. Preach on.

For those of you who have yet to reevaluate your stance on suburbia and dining at the Olive Garden, and have instead decided to grin and bear the New York grind for another year, here is a round-up of current real estate you can expect to pay entirely too much for.

    **PLACES FOR SALE**

    1. 4-bedroom on 14th Street Street

    Price: $3,350,000

Location: 467 14th Street (8th Ave & Prospect Park West)

    Real Estate Agency: Real Direct

What it's like:  This historical landmark is porn for an architect or design enthusiast.  Recently renovated by its architect owner, it features a number of updated originals mixed with stunning new renovation. With 12-rooms, 4-bedrooms, fireplaces, a garage and more outdoor spaces you can count, this place just may be worth the price tag.

Why you might want this place: Because you’re a Harry Potter enthusiast and have been dying for a library ladder to access you custom double high kitchen cabinetry.

Why this place might suck: While it’s cool to boast your house as part of the “Park Slope Historic House Tour," we imagine the parade lines outside your front door would get old real fast. Just ask Sarah Jessica Parker.

3rd Street Townhouse On the market for $2.85M

Oh, what I wouldn't give to live on 3rd Street with those extra wide sidewalks and the beautiful trees that line them. A four-story, 2,476-square-foot townhouse with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, two functional fireplaces, and a pergola located at 592 3rd Street (between 8th and PPW) has just been listed at $2.85 million, if you're in the market. You can check out Curbed for more pics, and decide whether or not you agree with them when they say that the facade of the building is a little odd (I think it is.)

Small tidbit: for a split second this place was listed at $28.5M, until someone got their head out of their butt and moved the comma to the right place.
