Cleaning up Brooklyn

I'm kind of in love with The Daily Clean.

The basic premise is this: blogger picks out a disgustingly dirty spot in Brooklyn, sets aside an hour, and cleans that shit up. That's it.

It's mind numbingly simple, and yet they're making a significant, measurable, noticeable contribution to their neighborhood every single day. Bravo.

"The idea is to take an hour or two out of your day and apply it to something useful. The majority of the areas will be rather small, in order to fully clean them within an hour or so. I will try to post the updates daily, in hopes of inspiring others."

The shot above was from Day 3 at Hope St. & Havemeyer, and took the blogger 45 mins.

[LINKED] All Aboard The Nostalgia Train!

+ "I just don't know why ANYONE would want to live in an apt?!" YEAH! SHEESH! (Curbed National).

+ When your bebes grow up, they become Tweens! (you know, before they start smokin-n-sexin when they're a teen). Here's a list of the best Tween stores in NYC. And if you don't have a tween, TONY suggests you still mine these shops for all those cheapo adult accessories (and no: by "adult" we don't mean porn) (TONY).

+ If you haven't already eaten lunch, I would suggest you hightail it over to Blue Apron and get this sandwich (Serious Eats).

+ Ok, fine: though I *do* still hate the MTA with every fiber of my being, these "nostalgia trains" running every Sunday until Dec. 26th do sound kinda cool (Curbed NY).

+ If you are a band and you want to get written up on some music blogs, you should read this: What It Really Takes To Get Buzz On A Music Blog (Brokelyn).

[LINKED] I'm Obsessed with The Ninja 1100

+ If your membership at the Food Coop has been suspended and you still want your farm fresh fruits-n-veggies, no sweat! Triomph Fitness is forming a CSA! (Brownstoner).

+ I'm glad we're all busy wasting time on cabbie's fucking dress codes...I don't give a shit what they wear, but if they'd all stop incessantly fighting with their wives/girlfriends/mistresses on never-ending cell phone calls, that would be pretty rad (NYT).

+ Does anyone have the Ninja 1100? I saw the infomercial for this thing this weekend and now I'm kind of obsessed. It looks like a magic bullet, but a WAY better one. This is now #1 on my Hannukah list (Ninja1100).

+ BREAKING: Allison is now on Twitter. You can follow her @BrooklynBreeder. The rest of our FIPS writers are still total pussies and refuse to try it (though I know I will persuade those btchz one day!).

+ Here's some inside scoop on The Rock Shop and their talent booker Skippy McFadden. Anyone seen some live music there? (Brooklyn Based).

+ Squirrel maulings are up...is Park Slope next? (Gothamist).

[LINKED] BIKES, BIKES, BIKES!

+ NYC is gettin ready to set up the biggest bike share program on the planet! Ok, fine: the nation! (WNYC).

+ Except everyone hates bikers! And bike lanes! Oh wells (NYT).

+ There is a chair in a tree at 5th Ave and Lincoln Place that has been stuck there since the great tornado of 2010. This is interesting to some people. I am not one of those people (Brooklyn Paper).

+ Here is a killer post on how to get your band listed on music blogs (Brokelyn).

+ Maybe if you served a vodka infused turkey this Thanksgiving, you would hate your family just a leetle bit less? Jus sayin...(Gothamist).

+ Watch the audience member go fucking mental at the Oprah show when they find out they are there for the Favorite Things ep (URLesque).

+ Wanna win free tix to the BK Hookup's Naughty Office Holiday Party? The Skint is doing a giveway! (The Skint).
