Smith/9th F/G To reopen in April

Photo via www.harukophoto.blogspot.com

Via Park Slope Patch comes the news that the Smith/9th Street station on the F/G line will reopen in April of this year. This will be great for the the people who live off of this stop, but greater for those of us who will get the xtra 45 seconds of above-ground cell phone usage!

Here are my top 5 picks for the G train song contest

Photo via www.communitybasedplanning.wordpress.com

In case you haven't already heard, Brooklyn Brewery recently held a contest calling for Brooklyn's best bands and singers to submit their G-train related songs in order for a chance to win a trip to a music fest in Brooklyn, Sweden. The beer people picked their top 10 favorites, and now there are 5 days for us to vote for the best (which you can do, if you so desire, on their Facebook page). In the meantime, I've narrowed down their top 10 to my top 5.

1. Abby & Chris: "We take the G"

I love the Moldy Peaches-esque sound of this song, not to mention their awesome construction paper animation. I actually listened to it several times, continually wanting to watch the stories unfold. Also, someone needs to make a "w/ lyrics" version of this and post it on youtube so that I can learn the words. Aside from the awesome clapping breakdown where the G train takes a tour through a psychedelic river, the recurring Pac-Man-faced paper guy that ends up screaming "G Train! You gon' wait so long!" really completes me.

Well Done, People: We've Saved the G Train Extension!

Photo via Village VoiceDespite threats by the MTA that the G train extension through Park Slope and Kensington was totally temporary, the relentless pushback of New York City straphangers has finally paid off.

On Monday, sources at the MTA confirmed that the five G train stops with questionable fates -- 4th Avenue-Ninth Street, 7th Avenue, Prospect Park-15th Street, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Church Avenue -- are going nowhere.

WE DID IT, YOU GUYS!

Write a Song about the G Train that doesn't suck and win a trip to Sweden!

Photo via musiqology.comThe contest is simple: write a FANTASTIC song about the G train and Brooklyn Brewery will fly you to some festival in Sweden over Labor Day weekend. The destination seems random, but hey, so are the G train's arrival times.

Park Slope Man Threatens To Break Up With Girlfriend If G Train Extension Is Canned

Photo via Wikipedia

It's hard being single.  You've got to deal with emotionally unavailable men, and clingy women and, well, generally, it's just a parade of horrible criminal injustices visited upon you by a bunch of low-lifes, sluts, losers, whiners, human trashbags and self-professed libertarians.

Mayor Bloomberg has only made that worse.  In a desperate bid to win re-election last year (or was it the year before? I may have been drunk for a few months), he put up these re-election ads in the subway promising an express F-Train, which made everyone who lives near the 7th Avenue Stop crap his or her pants in gleeful anticipation.  They've got the fucking express tracks.  Why don't they let us speed by those assholes in Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill on our way into work?  That's a very good question, FiPS Reader.  Congratulate yourself for asking it.
