Crazy Crime Blotter: Career Criminal Rips Off $100 Fruitcake in Park Slope.

You may want to play this while you read the following post (just skip the damn ad).

Now picture, if you will a man, a sophisticated man, possibly in a black turtleneck, ringing bells incessantly at a Prospect Park West apartment building on February 19th. He finally enters and finds his way lithely to the 6th floor. Here he allegedly burgles two packages, his booty being a fruit cake valued at 100 smackers and a set of wine glasses valued at $45. Apparently this is a man with a taste for the fineries of life.

According to DNAinfo.com an officer with the 78th precinct saw this guy ringing the buzzers and waited for him outside. The officer stopped the man identified as 44 year-old Anibal Maldanado on his way out of the building clutching the packages. The police report also noted that he had burglers tools in the form of three screwdrivers. Clearly this guy is old school and his record backs that up.

After Maldanado was charged with burglary, possession of burglar's tools, petit larceny, criminal trespassing and possession of stolen property it was discovered that he had a laundry list of run-ins with the law: 35 priors dating as far back as 1987 said the Kings County District Attorney's office.

It cannot be confirmed but allegedly Maldanado is being approached to play the Phantom in an upcoming reboot of the Pink Panther (not in any way true).
